Former MP and BJP leader Dilip Ghosh faced protests from Trinamool Congress (TMC) women workers in Kharagpur’s Ward 6, Mathpara, on Friday while inaugurating a newly constructed road. As he arrived, TMC workers confronted him, questioning his absence during his tenure as an MP and accusing him of taking credit for the project. One protester asked, "Dada, where were you all these days? When you were MP, we never saw you. Now that our councillor (Pradeep Sarkar) built the road, you are here?"
In response, Ghosh claimed he had funded the project, stating, "I gave the money. This is not anyone’s father’s money! Go and ask Pradeep Sarkar." His remarks angered the TMC workers, leading to a heated exchange. One protester questioned him further, asking, "Why did you raise your father?" Ghosh replied, "I will take the fourteenth installment. I gave the money, that's why I came to inaugurate it. This is not anyone’s father’s money. Don’t be foolish! Go and ask Pradeep." The confrontation escalated as protesters surrounded the vehicles of Ghosh and BJP district president Sudam Pandit, preventing their exit.
Security personnel were deployed to control the situation as the protest intensified. The incident has added to ongoing tensions between BJP and TMC in the region, with both parties engaged in disputes over development projects and credit claims. No reports of violence or arrests were recorded.
